The Malaysian Insider: After a four-year alliance, the world-renowned Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine has pulled out of Malaysia's Perdana University Graduate School of Medicine (Pugsom), citing frequent late payments as the reason. In 2006, Singapore government had problem with Johns Hopkins too! Inside Higher Ed wrote : And after a Hopkins spokesman was quoted in the Singapore press as saying that the nation-state did not fulfill its end of the bargain, the country's science agency released a blistering counterattack. In it, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research said that Singapore had provided more than $50 million to pay for the program, but that Hopkins had failed to meet specific obligations. Why would Malaysian government partner with Johns Hopkins in the first place? Full press release below: We refer to the news report on the termination of the Perdana University relationship with Johns Hopkins effective 31st July 2014. Perdana University is a wholly owned subsidiary of Academic Medical Centre Sdn Bhd (AMC). AMC has to date paid a total of US$34.199 million to Johns Hopkins on account of Perdana University. US$5 million was paid towards the Swami Institute for International Medical Education established at Johns Hopkins University and a further US$29.199 million as part of the affiliation and collaboration agreement. The last payment made to John Hopkins was US$2 million on 7th May 2014. AMC and Johns Hopkins are in dispute over whether any further sums are payable and the failure of Johns Hopkins to address the many grievances of AMC and Perdana University. Sin Chew Daily: Wei Hui Yun (translation), STPM 4A perfect scorer from Perak was not offered her choice of Bachelor's of Pharmacy in local public university (IPTA), she was being offered biotechnology degree programme instead. She felt extremely disappointed and helpless, cried many times and sometimes even woke up from her dream crying. She said that she had been working really hard for her STPM and was really happy when she got 4A in STPM, totally unexpecting that she will not get her choice and be offered a less popular course instead. She got 9A+ and 2A in her SPM. Non-bumiputra STPM perfect 4A scorers do not get their first choice is the result of racial and quota issue in the country. This is more than just an isolated case and you can see this kind of news repeating every year .

Malaysiakini: A Form Five student, who caused controversy at his school by clicking 'Like' on a pro-Israel Facebook page, is being investigated for sedition, Utusan Online reported. Nibong Tebal police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi said that he is investigated under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948. The police have taken the statements of the students and a teacher from the Simpang Ampat, Penang school, at the Seberang Perai police district headquarters yesterday. Several others involved will soon be called to assist with the investigations. This has really gone overboard!
