Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) replaced by Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 (PT3) - Muhyiddin

theSundaily: Beginning this year, the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) or lower secondary assessment examination, will be replaced with the Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 (PT3) or Form 3 Assessment, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“PT3 replaces PMR. There is some form of assessment at the school level,” he added.

He said PT3 would be used as the basis to determine the entry of students into Form 4 in fully residential schools, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama, Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSM), including Sekolah Menengah Teknik (SMT), and vocational colleges.

“Besides PT3, entry into these schools will also be based on the psychometric test to ensure that the selection and emplacement of students suited their capability and inter…

The Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings which was released on Thursday, officially ranks the world’s top 100 institutions by their academic reputation alone.

According to Times Higher Education Rankings editor Phil Baty, UM was one of three Malaysian institutions included in the study that ranked below the 160th position. Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia are the other two institutions.[...]

UM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Amin Jalaludin says he was surprised to learn that the institution was ranked in the reputation rankings as it was previously announced that UM would not take part in the Times Higher Education rankings until after 2017 to build up its citation count.

Underprivileged young people encouraged to pursue quality education

Applications for the 2014 Elena Cooke Education Fund are now open to Malaysians below 23 years old who have obtained at least 3As in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

“What’s different about this Fund is that we welcome financially needy students who have perhaps fewer As in their SPM results than top scorers, but who show a good track record in their school co-curricular activities and who are serious about education beyond Form 5, as the means to break out of the cycle of poverty,” says Mis…
