20% Increase for Vocational Students Intake This Year

Bernama:
The Education Ministry is transforming vocational education in the country by expanding its physical facilities to accommodate an increase of 20 per cent more students this year.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said it was aimed at meeting the trained manpower needs in various industries which required skilled workers.

He said the reception by students was overwhelming as about 126,000 students applied for places in vocational institutions last year when there were only 20,000 places available.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was aware of the situation and agreed that the government devoted more attention to establish more vocational facilities to meet demand from youths. Good news from the Ministry of Education Malaysia to those aiming to study at vocational institutions.

Corrupted Headmaster Fined RM148,500 & Two Years' Jail

Bernama:
A headmaster was sentenced to two years' jail and a fine of RM148,500 on five counts of abuse of power involving the supply of school co-curricular uniforms in 2008 and 2009, amounting to RM32,400.

Judge Mohd Rosli Osman handed out the judgement on Zakaria Md Lazim, 56, who was the headmaster at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Tandop Besar (SKTB), Kuala Nerang, near here.

He used his position to appoint ZNR Kuala Nerang Enterprise (ZNR), as the supplier of Puteri Islam uniforms, valued at RM3,300, although he had vested interests as ZNR was owned by his sister, Ros Adimas Md Lazim. Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) should start investigating all schools in Malaysia if similar incidents happened (or are happening) at other schools.

National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) secretary-general Lok Yim Pheng told New Strait Times:
SCHOOLS are told to carry out punishments against students without fear, favour or hesitation, so long as they act in accordance with their disciplinary guidebook.

"There is a guideline in punishing students and the schools' disciplinary teachers as well as school heads must use it." [...]

"Different schools have different sets of problems, so each school's set of guidelines has to be tailored to its disciplinary needs and based on the rules and guidelines set by the Education Ministry," [...]

She said the case in Sungkai, Perak, where a 26-year-old teacher in a vernacular primary school made her two pupils to "act like cows" were uncalled for.

She said the teacher should have consulted the parent-teacher association and the pupils' parents to discuss the matter.

Ministry of Education: Teacher Who Forced Students to Act Like Cows Transferred Immediately

The verdict is out, the English teacher at SJKC Khai Meng who forced two students to wear bells and act like cows (lembu) to eat grass has received official warning letter from Ministry of Education calling his act excessive and transferring him to another school effective immediately.
One thing strange was why this teacher's name was not published in the press whereas the names of the kids (victims) and their parents were. Why did the press conspire to hide the name of the teacher who has been found guilty but instead published the names of the victims? Poor kids who failed to complete their schoolwork are now traumatised and scared to attend schools because of the act of this irresponsible teacher.

Their parents claimed that the teacher had also asked them to pull grass from the field and asked the boys to eat it on Thursday. [...]

“He had caned the boys twice each before that but chose to humiliate them by making them wear bells around their necks and calling them cows in front of the class.

“If that was not bad enough, he took pictures of them on his mobile phone and threatened to post them on Facebook before asking the boys to eat grass or get another 10 strokes of the rotan," Muktasim told reporters here Saturday.

He alleged that although the boys were spared from eating the grass without being caned, their pictures were shown to pupils in other classes.

Muktasim claimed the teacher was also unfair as he had let off two other pupils who had not handed in their homework. The teache…
