BANGSAR VILLAGE LAUNCHES UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS FOR NEEDY STUDENTS

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 DECEMBER 2014 – Bangsar Village today announced the launch of their first ever Bangsar Village Kids’ for Kids’ Scholarship Awards for needy and deserving individuals, who will be selected to read their undergraduate studies locally on a full scholarship basis.

Bangsar Village’s holding company, Eng Lian Enterprise Sdn. Bhd. has pledged to donate RM 50,000 whilst anchor tenant Village Grocer has pledged a matching sum. To add to this, RM 50,000 was raised from the sale of books and the auction of photo canvases by the talented YY Chin.

According to Tan Joon Kai, Complex Manager for Bangsar Village, “With a total contribution of RM 150,000 to kick start our Bangsar Village Kids’ for Kids’ Scholarship Awards, the search is on for three deserving individuals who have demonstrated excellence in and out of the classroom. We shall officially open for applications for the Bangsar Village Kids’ for Kids’ Scholarship Awards from 1 January, 2015 and will offer a fresh round of scholarship awards every year.”

He added, “It is our aim to assist those who may otherwise not have had the chance to pursue their dreams and help turn them into reality. To ensure that this is the case, we have a strict set of criteria, for example, one of the conditions is that he or she must come from a family where the monthly household income cannot exceed RM 4,000. We have also narrowed the focus for now to those who wish to pursue maths, science and technology disciplines but in time, we shall expand to include more fields of study.”

Tan said, “Customers and BV retailer partners have their part to play as their participation in planned activities will help ensure the sustainability of the centre’s efforts.”

Bangsar Village is the first shopping centre to offer scholarship awards but it marks one in a string of charitable initiatives that the centre has undertaken giving back to the community since it opened for business ten years ago.

Application forms will be made available at the Information Counter in Bangsar Village. Alternately, interested applicants may download the forms and more information from www.bangsarvillage.com/k4kscholarship. The deadline for submission is 30 April 2015.
