Sarawak Energy Diploma and Degree Scholarships 2015 Scholarships
Complements government efforts to meet Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) manpower requirements
KUCHING, 8th JULY 2015, WEDNESDAY: Deserving young Sarawakians can look forward to more opportunities to reach their full potential. State power company Sarawak Energy is offering 50 scholarships this year to high performing students with a good track record in extra-curricular activities to brighten their future prospects.
In its on-going plan for international level excellence, Sarawak Energy prioritises the development of its employees through regular corporate and technical training within Malaysia as well as overseas. Employees seeking to enhance their career prospects are able to apply for company funding for continuing education.
Sarawak Energy launched the external scholarship programme in 2014 as an extension of their internal capability building programmes.
“We encourage young Sarawakians who have done well academically in school and are also active in extra-curricular activities to apply,” said Siti Aisah Adenan, Sarawak Energy’s vice president for People and Leadership Development.
“Last year when we first introduced the external scholarship programme, we received over a hundred applicants and upon selection, 30 were granted scholarships totalling RM1.35million. These applicants presented a good mix in both technical and non-technical fields. We anticipate the response to be similar or even better this year,” she added.
Sarawak Energy will provide funding for tuition and examination fees for tertiary level scholars in various technical and non-technical disciplines at recognised colleges and universities in Malaysia.
“We are one of the biggest employers in the state with over 4000 employees and the energy provider for SCORE which is Sarawak’s main engine of growth. We started our scholarship programme internally before we decided that we would extend this programme to other deserving potentials in Sarawak.”
Lighting up communities, delivering power to grow SCORE’s aggressive infrastructure development programme for Sarawak to achieve high-income status by 2020 requires a sizeable workforce pool, especially in the technical field.
Sarawak Energy’s scholarship programme aims to complement the state government’s efforts to ensure sufficient local manpower for SCORE. Other programmes include partnerships with universities in Sarawak for research and development.
