UM in QS World University Rankings: 6 Subjects in World's Top 50, 13 Subjects Topped The Nation

The University Of Malaya (UM) continues its consistent performance by ranking in the top 50 list for six out of 30 subject areas.  According to the 2014 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject released yesterday, the subjects comprise a good mix of the sciences and humanities.  The ranking result features University Malaya joining the world’s Top 200 institutions in 14 of the 30 subjects assessed.   It has, in particular, an improved ranking or is featured for the first time in the following subjects:

UM was ranked highest for 13 out of the 30 subjects areas nationally. These subjects, although some are not listed in the top 400, are Modern Language, Engineering – Electrical and Electronics, Engineering - Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing, Medicine, Geography, Material Science, Physics & Astronomy, Law, History, Linguistics, Psychology, Social Science & Management, and Sociology.

University Malaya Vice Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Amin Jalaludin, in welcoming the results, however stressed that the campus community has a lot more to do. This in particular to ensure that UM rises in the overall World QS Ranking. “I’m happy and pleased that UM is in the list, with six subject areas marking the top 50 notch. However, there is still plenty of room for us to improve and ensure that UM can rise in the overall rankings, whilst sustaining its subject based excellence".

For the third edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, 3,002 universities were evaluated and 689 institutions ranked.  In total 130 million of citations attributions were also analyzed and 10, 639 programs provision verified.
