12-year-old Chess Player Forced to Withdraw from Chess Championship Due to “Seductive” Dress

Kaushal Kal: DEAR MALAYSIAN CHESS COMMUNITY, I heard the most disturbing incident from one of my student’s mother. At the National Scholastic Chess Championship 2017, in Putrajaya, one of my student, who is a 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL felt harassed and humiliated by the actions of Tournament Director and Chief Arbiter. In the middle of Round 2, (without stopping the clocks) Chief Arbiter informs my student that the dress she wore was improper and have violated the dress code of the tournament. It was later informed (by Chief Arbiter) to my student and her mother, that the Tournament Director deemed my student’s dress to be “seductive” and a “temptation from a certain angle far, far away”. We found this statement completely out of line! Please see attached photo of what she was wearing! Completely ridiculous! After some discussion, Chief Arbiter had conceded and apologised to my student, personally assuring her that there was nothing wrong with her attire, but due to Tournament Dire...

Atilla Hanna: Here's a conclusion of the 'rape joke' incident as well as what happened to me #13reasonswhy (ok jk). Let's drop the topic already okay guys. Thank you for the overwhelming support although I wish things turned out differently. But don't get me wrong, IACT did the best they can, it isnt their fault. This just showed how bad Brickfields Asia College (BAC) & IACT College management in handling sexual harassment case reported - no disciplinary action on the harasser at first before the case went viral on social media. The official statement below adds to the incompetency of Brickfields Asia College (BAC) & IACT College - lots of excuses on mishandling of the case. Do not send your kids or enrol yourselves in such education institutions that are unsafe and high tolerance towards any form of harassme...

Learning the art of self-learning when studying abroad

Humans of Kuala Lumpur: When you are studying overseas, the studying and teaching style is very different. Back in Malaysia you just need to memorize the notes given to you by your lecturer or teacher and you will be able to get good grades! But if you come here, and rely only on the slides given, you will not be able to pass an exam! Here, they encourage us to give our on opinion on subjects, to debate, and promote self-learning. You need to read more publication papers in order to present your evidence towards whatever you are required to write, which I find difficult at first but its very useful as I have to do more thinking than let the teacher do the thinking for us. I'm actually able to discuss more serious topics with my friends and able to learn a lot more skills. But at Malaysia, us students can be quite manja (spoilt/pampered) because for the exams everything is given to us, and I feel like we don't really do a lot of thinking. I do appreciate the hardwork by my t...
